Hot Fruit Figure Drawing centers QTBIPOC models and artists. We want our sessions to allow for the full spectrum of intersectional identities. Sessions can range from classical nude figure drawings to fashion forward, where the model is free to express themselves through a lQqk. We are creating a space where models are free to center not only the figure, but their energy and personal expression.

Sessions are in-person but for accessibility sake will also include a Zoom component. Online Zoom participants are required to have their cameras on during the session, and are not allowed to record or take screenshots of any parts of the session.

Features in depth specifications about scents, bathrooms, entrances, stairs, and doorways.

Scent Reduction
The JBG is an artist run center with studio spaces, a gallery, and multi-use spaces. Between that and their specific composition as the heritage building, it is not a scent-free space but they do their best to minimize. We ask that participants of Hot Fruit Figure Drawing do not further contribute to scents that can cause reactions.

EMS
Studiomates rely on wi-fi and other signals as it is their working space.

VACCINE passports
We ask that participants are vaccinated and wear a mask during sessions, especially sessions that are extra crowded.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES & SPACE AGREEMENT

Hot Fruit Figure Drawing takes place on the unceded stolen land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. We not only live, work, and create on these unceded stolen lands, but we ask that all settlers interrogate their relationship to the land and how they can contribute to positive changes and the material conditions to indigenous folks and Indigenous sovereignty.
Additional by attending this event you agree to not participate in racist, fatphobic, or ableist violence or commentary. Additionally this is a body positive space, and we do not comment or place value judgements on bodies. Do not touch any models or participants without consent.

You acknowledge that, by attending this life drawing class, you will might be exposed to nude figures for the sake of observational drawing. Some events will be open to all ages, and some will require all participants to be 19 years or older. Every event will list what participants and audiences can expect.

We discourage the use of your phone while the model is posing for the safety and privacy of the model. Even for costumed poses, do not take recordings without consent of the model and people sharing the space.

For events at the JBG

“The James Black Gallery aims to be an inclusive, anti-oppression protective space. Any intolerant behaviour will not be permitted, and will result first in accountability process, and if applicable a permanent ban from the premises if unable to come to a resolution.“

QTBIPOC CENTERED & A REMINDER TO ALLIES

This event is created by and for QTBIPOC (Queer,Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color).
We especially want this space to be safe for Body-diverse models and artists to feel safe not only to express themselves, but to share space with each other through drawing.

White allies are able to participate but we ask that they be particularly mindful of the space they take up. Show up if your presence helps to anchor your QTBIPOC friends, partners, and family. Otherwise we ask allies to be especially mindful in how they can contribute to equity for QTBIPOC (e.g. donating a ticket to someone in need, paying more to ensure that organizers and models can sustain the work, etc).
